Can I cancel my Tripod membership?

Yes, you can cancel your account at any time.

For Free members, you simply need to go to your "My Account" page, and click "Delete My Website". You will be asked to verify if you're sure. Once done, you'll be logged out. Note that your account username/password will still work to log you in. However, once your site is deleted, your account is technically deleted. Re-logging in, will only recreate the site.

Premium members:
If you have a Tripod Paid account (Tripod Plus, Tripod Pro, Tripod Webmaster, Tripod Deluxe) and you would like to keep your Web site up but downgrade back to the Free service, you may do so at any time.

1. Please log into Tripod and then go to the "My Account" page
2. Click "Cancel your Membership" and then
3. Click on "YES, I want to CANCEL"
4. Complete the Cancellation Survey. You will then be prompted to enter your password again.
5. Verify your membership information and click "I Agree". Once that has been processed, your auto renew will be turned off and your Web site will revert to the Free service.
6. Return to the "My Account" page to confirm that the account has been downgraded successfully.

*Please note: You are entitled to have a "free domain name" as long as you own a Tripod Packages (Pro, Webmaster, Deluxe). However, if you choose to cancel or downgrade your Tripod Packages to the Tripod Plus plan or the Tripod Free plan, you will lose your domain.

Can I change my membername/URL?

Unfortunately, no.

If you want to, or absolutely need to change your membername and URL, you'd need to cancel your existing account, and create a new one, with the correct membername/URL.

Please note that doing so may affect your ability to edit your site in SiteBuilder (if you're using SiteBuilder). If using FreeForm, or FTP, you'd be responsible for moving your files, Tripod will not assist you in doing so.

However, if you are using sitebuilder to build your site you may be able to move your sitebuilder content from one account to another.

You can:

-log into your account and go to sitebuilder.

-click "Backup & restore" in the upper right corner

-Download the backup to your computer and then upload the backup file into your new account.
"Backup" downloads a folder containing an uneditable copy of your Site Builder settings and data to your desktop. You can use this backup to restore your site or to make a copy to transfer to a different Tripod account.

Once this is completed and your new account is up and running, you'll want to delete or unpublish the site from your original account.

Can I change the ads that appear on my site?

The ads that appear on your site, are generated by the type of content that you have on your site.

There is no way to change the types of ads that appear, other than to change the content of your site.

Generally, the ads are very well targeted. If you have a site about pets, you should see ads about pets.

If you have a site about cars, you should see ads about cars.

The only way to remove the ads all together, is to upgrade to a Premium Subscription. Removing the ads using your own coding, is a direct violation of our Terms of Service, and will result in your account being removed.

Can I get a .com domain name?

Yes. If you'd like to use a .com name (or .net, .biz, .org, etc), instead of the Tripod URL, you have a few options:

1) Upgrade your hosting account with us, to a Premium Plan. The majority (but not all) of our Premium Plans come with a free domain name for the life of your account.

2) You can purchase a domain name from http://domains.lycos.com (cost is $19.95 per year), to use with your existing free site.

3) You can purchase a domain name from any registrar. Please be sure when doing this, that the registrar offers Domain Forwarding, with Domain Masking. If the registrar does not offer these features, your domain name may not work properly with your Tripod account.

What does signup pending mean?

To prevent spammers from creating multiple accounts and causing trouble for everyone, we ask you to "activate" your free account on this site.
Don't worry--activation is easy. Here's how it works:

We send a message to the email address you entered during registration. This email contains a special activation link just for you.

To activate your account, all you need to do is click the activation link within 24 hours of registering.

If you don't receive the email with your activation link:

Check your Spam or Junk folder in case the email got routed there accidentally by your email provider.  Or sign back into the Lycos Network to confirm the email address is correct or enter a different email address.

You can also click the "Resend my activation email" link to send the activation email again.

Please note:

If your account is not activated within 24 hours, you'll have to register again. So please be sure to click that activation link.

If you're purchasing a premium service, the premium account will be activated automatically--no other steps necessary!

Why does there need to be ads on my site?

Since the service you're using is free, Tripod needs to generate enough revenue from your site, to pay the costs to allow you to use the space for free.

Through the banners and advertising we place on our free members sites, we generate the revenue neccessary to provide the free space to all of our members.

Why does Tripod need my e-mail address?

A few various reasons.

1) We need to make sure that the person signing up is a real person, and not an automated robot signing up, wasting the internet space.
2) In the event you should lose or forget your password, we have an automated system set up to send you an email, with your login information.
3) We use your email address to verify your identity, when you request help from Tech Support.
