What is SiteBuilder?
SiteBuilder is provided to Tripod members to help them build a site, without any knowledge of HTML or Javascript coding.
It is referred to, as a WYSIWYG editor, which means What You See, Is What You Get.
This allows you to simply place the contents of your site into the appropriate location you want them in, and SiteBuilder will write all of the HTML coding for you.
An excellent help for novice webbuilders.

How do I get started with SiteBuilder?
To get started with SiteBuilder, you first need to have a Tripod account and be logged into it.
Once logged in, you'll want to select either the menu link for SiteBuilder or the link titled 'Create New' - both are seen circled in the image below:

The Next Screen offers you two choices. If you wish to quickly jump into building your site, click the Drop Down box titled Choose a template, select a template from the List and click the Go button. Your then already building your site! The remaining instructions are not applicable if you have chosen this method.
Clicking the text titled "Click here to build a new web site" will actually bring you to a greater template resource than the quick start menu will provide. There are more categories to choose from there and you can customers your "look and feel" of your site with these templates.

Now that you have clicked on the 'Click here to build a new web site,' you are prompted on this next screen to select your Web site template. Since you have chosen this method, you want to click the text link for "Start with a multi-page template.'.

From here, you'll be able to pick what category your template comes from, as seen below:

The next step will ask you some information to enter about your site.
Enter the requested information where the SiteBuilder asks you to enter it.
Click the "Continue" button (bottom right corner), once you're done.
The next screen will be the screen where you select your template to use.
By default, you'll see a handful (or so) templates based on the section you choose earlier.
Once you select the template you want to use, click "Continue" again, and you're ready to start building your site in SiteBuilder.

Do I need Javascript enabled to use SiteBuilder?
Yes, definitely.
SiteBuilder works on a series of small pop up, inline windows, that display on top of one another, to add or delete a piece from your page.
If you disable the Javascript in your browser, these windows will not be able to pop up on the screen, rendering the SiteBuilder tool useless.

How do I make edits in SiteBuilder?
When viewing your site in SiteBuilder, you'll see various edit buttons scattered around the page, corresponding to items on your page.
Clicking on these buttons will allow you to edit the content that they're tied to. The buttons you could see would be similar to those shown below (but not limited to):

Clicking these buttons will allow you to edit any of that content.
Note: When adding video, pictures, or linked documents, be sure that there are no spaces in the filenames. Having spaces may corrupt (or confuse) SiteBuilder, and not allow you to edit or remove those add-ons at a later date.

How do I publish my SiteBuilder site?
Once you're done with your SiteBuilder site, and you're ready to get it online for everyone to see, you'll need to go through a process known as "publishing" your site.
To Publish your SiteBuilder site, follow these steps:
- Go to the "All My Sites" page. You can do this by clicking on "Site Builder" from the Navigation menu.
- On the "Site Settings" page, you'll see some basic info about your site. Either "Last Published on:" and the date, or "Not Published", which means you haven't published your site yet. It will look similar to this:

Once you're on the "All My Sites" page, click on "Site Settings", as shown below:

4) Once the "Site Settings" page loads, you'll see the button to Publish your site:

5) Click "Publish", and your site will be published.
Note: If you already have a site published to your root directory (your Tripod site), you'll be asked what subdirectory you want to publish to. This means your second (third, fourth, etc) site(s), will be published to a URL such as membername.tripod.com/subdirectory. You can pick the subdirectory you want, but cannot change it without unpublishing, and republishing.

Unpublishing is simple.
First, go to your "All My Sites" page. Once there, click on the "Site Settings" link, as show below:

Then, simply click the Unpublish button, as shown below:

Creating a link to a document through Sitebuilder
1. Login to your Tripod account and access Sitebuilder.
2. Click a site name to edit the site.
3. From the Sitebuilder tool menu at the bottom, select the button labeled Site Add-Ons.
4. Select where on the page you wish to have this displayed by clicking the appropriate Add it here button.
5. From the Site Add-Ons menu, select Interactive Features.
6. From the heading titled Add Your Own HTML, click the add button.
7. Enter or paste HTML in the text box. You will see the results of your HTML code on the page where you inserted it after you click Done.
Sample link for a .pdf file:
<a href="acrobat_file.pdf">Textual Name of pdf file</a>
Note: This Site Add-On is for advanced users who are familiar with HTML. Incorrectly formatted HTML or JavaScript could corrupt your page, and may require you to re-create the entire page. If you are unsure about the quality of the code you are about to insert, create a new page and try it there. That way if the code is incorrectly formatted and results in the page being uneditable, you can just delete the entire page.
Site Add-Ons can enhance your web site greatly. However, before beginning, be aware that if the HTML or JavaScript code used is not correct, the Site Add-On won't work properly and could ruin a great web page.
To avoid these problems:
1. Create a test page for a AYOHTML Add-On:
2. Open your web site.
3. Click the "Site Organizer" icon
4. Click the "Add Page" icon.
5. Add the Add Your Own HTML to the test page.
6. Rename the page "Test" so you can easily identify and delete the page later.
7. Copy and paste the code exactly into the Site Add-On.
If the code is copied incorrectly or only partially, the Site Add-On won't work properly.
If the HTML or JavaScript code is incorrect, the Site Add-On won't work properly.
If the HTML contains a < form tag >, you will not be able to delete, copy, or move the Site Add-On. However, you can edit the Site Add-On.
In edit mode, take out the < form > < /form> tags and then make coding changes in the Add Your Own HTML Site Add-On. Once the Site Add-On is set, you can put the < form tag > < /form > back in.
If the HTML contains an unclosed tag, for example: for example, your code starts with < html, but doesn't include the close tag: >. You will not be able to edit or delete the Site Add-On.
Note: Some HTML or JavaScript code that you get off the internet requires that you give that company a specific URL for the web page on which you placed the Site Add-On. If this is the case and you move the Site Add-On to another page, contact your Site Add-On partner to notify them that the URL has changed.

Why is my site aligned to the left?
SiteBuilder was designed to make sites compatable with all resolutions (screen sizes). Due to this compatability issue, SiteBuilder designs all templates in 800x600 resolution.
What this means, is that your site will appear to be aligned to the left. However, in actuality, it's simply set up so that even people with the lowest resolution, will be able to see your site correctly.
We've created a work around for this problem.
Add this code as an HTML Addon in the footer of each page:
<style>
body{text-align:center;}
table{margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto;}
</style>
Note: If you edit your site in FreeForm, changes will not be applied in SiteBuilder, and you will not be able to cross-edit between the two platforms.

SiteBuilder won't load, what should I do?
1) Your internet connection. Make sure you can visit other websites, without issue.
2) Your Anti Virus software. Sometimes programs get overzealous, blocking things they shouldn't be blocking.
3) Your firewall. Same as above, your firewall could wrongly be "protecting you" from SiteBuilder.
4) Your cookies.
5) Javascript. If you disable Javascript in your browser, SiteBuilder will not be able to load, or work properly.
If all of these things are set properly, and Sitebuilder will still not load, please try the following:
1) Log out of our Tripod account
2) Close your Internet Browser
3) Go to your "Start" button, and select "Control Panel"
4) Select "Internet Options"
5) Select "Delete Files", and check the box for "Delete all offline content".
6) Restart your browser, and log back into Tripod.
This should effectively fix any connection issues you may have with SiteBuilder.

Why did I keep getting the 'Error 500' error in Site Builder after I clicked on my Web site in the 'All My Site' area?
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please open a new Support Ticket by clicking on the link for Ask a Question at the top of this page and provide us with your Membername and stated issue.
There are various reasons why a web site file becomes corrupted, hence causes the 'Error 500' error to display:
1) A Server Time-out
2) Bad HTML codes may break the core codes in a Site Builder file
3) Bad JavaScript implementation
4) Excessive data being written on a Site Builder file.
To prevent the above incidents from occurring, please make sure you perform the following tasks properly:
1) Make sure you are copying and pasting the HTML codes into Site Builder by using a "Add Your Own HTML Site Add-On".
2) Make sure you are copying and pasting the JavaScript codes into Site Builder by using a "Add Your Own HTML Site Add-On".
3) Make sure both JavaScript and HTML codes are valid before you attempt to paste them into Site Builder.
4) Do not copy and paste HTML/JavaScript codes straight from programs such as MS Office, MS Office may add some unusual characters (for example, accent marks created by a Spanish key board; bad HTML/JavaScript codes), these characters may confuse the core code in Site Builder.
5) Try to keep your site below 1MB in size.
6) Break up the Site Builder site into a few sections, by creating multiple smaller sites with the content spread among them (multiple subdirectories).

ActiveX Control
The change was included in a recent Windows update because of a patent infringement lawsuit between Eolas Technologies and the Regents of the University of California v. Microsoft. Because of this lawsuit, Microsoft is changing the way Internet Explorer handles ActiveX controls. These changes will be in Internet Explorer 7. However, to allow developers a chance to change their code. The change was included in the April Security update (KB912812). This is why people are receiving the following prompt when visiting some ActiveX web pages. This should fix the issue for the time being, however when IE 7 is released this prompt will appear on web pages that have not changed the way they handle ActiveX components."
