Can I cancel my hosting, and keep my domain name?

You are entitled to have a "free domain name" as long as you own a paid hosting package.

If you choose to transfer the 'bundled domain' away to another registrar, you will need to repurchase this domain from us as a stand-alone domain.
However, due to the way our system setup, Paid Package subscribers will have to cancel/downgrade their premium plans in order to separate the bundled domain (the free domain name) from the premium packages and then repurchase it as stand-alone domain.

To do so, you will need to cancel or downgrade your hosting to the Free plan.
Once you purchase the domain as a stand-alone domain, if you would wish to move it to a different registrar you'll need to contact that company to initiate the transfer.

To repurchase the 'unbundled domain', all you need is to login to Lycos Domains on the front end,

http://ldbauth.lycos.com/cgi-bin/mayaLogin?m_PR=18&m_LO=1,

with your existing memberame

Once you are logged in, select the 'unbundled domain' name as if you were registering for the first time from scratch by typing the domain name into the provided field.

Then follow the on-screen instruction.

You should be charged $19.95 for the annual registration fee if everything goes smoothly.

$19.95 for 1 Year
$39.95 for 2 Years

Please notice that your existing domain will be off-line during the propagation period.
The re-registered domain names generally will take between 24 and 72 hours until they are accessible again.

*Note: The stand-alone domain needs to be registered with Lycos Domains for at least 60 days before it can be transferable. It is mandated by the Registry (ICANN).

Can I change my domain name?

Unfortunately, once you select your domain name, you are unable to change it. Once we have registered the domain name with ICANN, there is no way to change it.

However, you do have some options if you absolutely must change your domain name:
1) Navigate your browser to http://domains.lycos.com, and login using your existing Lycos membername. Purchase the domain name from http://domains.lycos.com. The cost for this domain name is $19.95 per year, and is not included as part of your hosting with us. You are responsible for renewing, maintaining, and managing this domain name.

2) You can downgrade your existing hosting account to a "Free" account, by logging in, and clicking on "My Account". Then select the link for "Cancel My Membership". Once you complete the cancellation process (and verify you are a "free" member on your "My Account" page), you can then re-upgrade your site, and choose the domain name you wish. Please note that when doing this, you will be required to pay the set up fee for your account again. This is due to changing the domain name. This set up fee cannot be refunded under any circumstance.

If you have any furter questions, please let us know, and we will do our best to assist you.

How "free" is the domain name?

It's just what it says, free.

The bundled hosting/domain name plans include an absolutely free domain name. No hidden fees, no secret charges. Just free.

The benefit of Tripod/Angelfire's free domain, is that it's free as long as you're a Premium Subscriber. Other companies give you the domain name free for one year, then charge you for the renewal. Not Tripod or Angelfire. With us, it's always free.

What if I have my own domain?

If you have your own domain, and are considering purchasing a Tripod/Angelfire premium hosting plan, you should know that in order to take advantage of the features we offer, with our domains, you'd need to select a new domain name (which is free).

This will allow us to provide you with email addresses, subdomains, email forwarding, Tripod/Angelfire assignment, and other features only available on the Lycos network.

We generally suggest picking the same domain name, with an alternative extention. Ie, if your site is mysupersite.com, we'd say to pick mysupersite.net, or mysupersite.biz

When will my domain expire?

Your bundled domain (with your hosting plan) will never expire.

If you receive any notifications, mailings, or e-mails from any company other than Lycos/Tripod/Angelfire stating to send them money, to renew your domain name, please disregard them.

Unless you receive an email directly from Lycos, you needn't pay anyone for your domain name, at any point.
